Continuing education nursing credits have been approved by the NAPNAP Asthma Education Program. Calais Regional Hospital and Calais Regional Medical Services have been putting some major focus on asthma management for patients, families and providers dealing with this chronic disease. As part of our commitment, we are pleased to offer this asthma educational in-service free of charge.

The in-service will cover topic areas such as: • Assessing asthma control and asthma severity • Recommendations for monitoring asthma symptoms, severity and control • Recommended pharmacological approach for treatment of asthma • Proper use of asthma medication and treatment devices: metered dose inhaler, spacer, nebulizer, dry powdered inhaler and peak flow meter • Discuss methods for overcoming challenges and what you as a health care provider can do to help children and adults living with asthma in our community. Presenter: Larry Tonzi, FNP, is a nurse practitioner from Houlton Regional Hospital and Houlton Pediatrics. Mr. Tonzi is one of 46 nurse practitioners from around the U.S. who have been trained through the Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) Asthma program. The NAPNAP is part of the National Asthma Control Initiative of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the National Institutes of Health.
