Patient safety and comfort and a concerted effort to deliver the lowest radiation exposure possible are key criteria when Calais Regional Hospital evaluates new radiology equipment. | |
This is why, after thorough research CRH chose to partner with Siemens Healthcare for the new Computed Tomography multi-slice CT scanner. The new Definition AS provides high image quality while reducing x-ray dose to the patient. Its innovative design provides optimal patient comfort by eliminating the closed-in feeling which patients sometimes associate with CT scanning.
Physicians at CRH are able to use the Definition AS to help make faster and more confident diagnosis in emergency and acute care settings, particularly in examining patients with acute chest pain, abdominal pain, and suspicion of stroke. Physicians can now review results before the patient has left the table, allowing them to provide immediate feedback and quickly determine treatment options. The high image quality can be obtained when examining patients who are obese, short of breath or who have elevated heart rates.
“Our new CT scanner provides us with outstanding diagnostic information by enabling us to perform Multi-slice CT on a routine basis,” said Dana Davidson, RT, Director of Radiology. “For example, we can now scan geriatric, pediatric and trauma patients in a single breath hold, which results in more accurate diagnosis while also reducing examination time and increasing patient comfort. It allows us to take care of our patients in the best way and in a patient friendly environment.”
