Calais Regional Hospital Announces the Arrival of a New MRI
Calais Regional Hospital emphasizes its dedication to quality patient care with the installation of the Magnetom Symphony MRI scanner from Siemens Healthcare. Part of the Magnetom Family of Magnetic Resonance Scanners, the Symphony brings Calais Regional’s radiology department an ultra high speed MRI machine that provides excellent image quality, shorter examinations and increased departmental workflow.
“We strive to provide our community with a first-class healthcare facility and Siemens’ technology facilitates that goal,” states Dana Davidson, RT, CRH Director of Radiology. “The Magnetom Symphony’s speed and ease-of-use enables us to bring a variety of innovative applications and improved care to our facility.”
The new MRI unit is an advanced system that provides excellent clarity of imaging and supports a wide range of clinical applications. Compared to the previous equipment, it is a little faster, quieter and has a shorter bore - which increases patient’s comfort by providing a less confining experience and fewer claustophobic issues. The interior of the mobile unit is inviting and more pleasant, which allows patients to relax. The Magnetom scanner provides music from Sirius Satellite radio to assist patients in being less tense during an exam. Technnologists now have the capability to provide patients with a CD of the exam for their physicians to view in the office.
MRI patients are generally seen two days a week at Calais Regional Hospital, but with the unit available around the clock, emergency testing can be done anytime a technologist is on site to provide the service. Performing MRI’s at Calais Regional Hospital are MRI technologists Carla Jundt, RTR(CT)(M); Dale Bolton, RTR(MR) and Mindy Smith, RTR. Carla has over ten years of MRI experience, Dale has been a registered MRI technologist since 1992 and Mindy began working with MRI in 2008.
“The MRI scanner is only the latest in new equipment being added to the radiology department,” adds Dana. “While the hospital continues to offer film mammography, a new digital mammography system will be installed this Fall. We are very excited about all of the updated technology in the radiology department and the expanded services we can and will be able to offer.”
CRH is pleased to provide such advanced technology for patients which gives physicians the clinical information they need to provide their patients with the highest quality of care. At Calais Regional Hospital, we work hard to bring you the best in healthcare, and the new MRI scanner and upcoming Digital Mammography Unit are top quality services we are excited to provide to our community members.
