Scheduled Flu Clinics

DATETIMELOCATIONTYPEELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS

There have been positive cases of H1N1 flu confirmed at the hospital and many presenting with Influenza-Like-Illness to the emergency department and physician offices. People should assume that they will be exposed to the flu at some point, we should all take precautions to prevent serious illness by staying home when sick, covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands frequently, and getting vaccinated against both seasonal and H1N1 flu when vaccine is available to you.

SEASONAL FLU VACCINE INFORMATION
Calais Regional Hospital and Calais Regional Medical Services have adult SEASONAL flu vaccine. Please contact the CRMS office if you are a patient of the practice, or if you are unable to obtain the vaccine through your physician contact the hospital at 454-9227.

The vaccine was distributed in the following ways:

  • Clinics were held at the physician's office for CRMS patients and was available during regular appointments.
  • The CRH Infection Control Department provided for hospital staff, physicians and volunteers.
  • The Community Education Department provided onsite flu clinics for many of the area businesses, as well as individuals who did not otherwise have access.

Pediatric SEASONAL flu vaccine clinics were held at the CRMS practice as well as at the local schools in the Fall.

H1N1 FLU VACCINE INFORMATION
The State provides the H1N1 vaccine. Calais Regional Hospital is a registered recipient for the vaccine. The H1N1 vaccine is being distributed by the Center for Disease Control, or CDC.
Local community clinics were held for the H1N1 vaccine. The vaccine is also available at the CRMS practice for patients of the practice. If your personal physician does not have the vaccine availabe, or you do not have a physician to obtain the vaccine from, contact the hospital at 454-9227.

Priority groups have been established by the CDC and these groups are strongly encourage to get the vaccine when it is available to them. The priority groups include:
  • pregnant women
  • household contacts of infants under 6 months of age
  • children
  • young adults 18-24 years of age
  • health care workers
  • adults under age 65 with underlying health conditions of: chronic pulmonary (including asthma), cardiovascular (except hypertension), renal, hepatic, cognitive, neurologic/neuromuscular, hematologic, or metabolic disorders (including diabetes) or immunosuppresion.

Getting vaccines out to those of highest priority is requiring coordination among CDC, healthcare providers and more. Predictions and availability of needed types of vaccine can change quickly, so we are working hard to stay informed and be flexible. Staff has invested much time staying abreast of CDC guidance and guidelines, as well as reviewing our own infection control procedures. Our Infection Control Nurse has regular communication with the Maine CDC and Immunization Program.

Notices are provided via radio, newspaper, the hospital website and/or the CRH Flu Update Phoneline (454-9248) with all the pertinent info of any clinics.

If you have any further questions, you can contact the CRH Community Relations Office at 454-9227 or at community@calaishospital.org.
