| H1N1 Influenza
As announced on Wednesday by Governor Baldacci, we now have confirmed cases of the H1N1 (Swine Flu Virus) in Maine. Please be advised Calais Regional Hospital (CRH) has implemented LEVEL 1 of the CRH Pandemic Flu Plan (increased surveillance at triage, ordering antiviral medications, communication plan, and making education materials available).
According to Maine CDC’s Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory (HETL), the most important strategies to minimize swine flu’s impact in Maine are vigilant respiratory hygiene: covering coughs and sneezes with sleeves or elbows; washing hands frequently; and staying home if ill, especially with a fever. Please contact your primary care physician if you have concerns about symptoms that you or a family member are experiencing. Additionally, everyone should stay informed since this event is rapidly changing and resulting guidance is as well.
We will continue to monitor this issue closely and appropriately, and keep you informed accordingly. In the meantime, if you have any further questions, I encourage you to go to www.mainepublichealth.gov or call their “public” toll free number: 1-888-257-0990.
In addition, we have recorded a Public Service Announcement through WQDY/WCRQ.
