Reach to Recovery is a volunteer visitation program of the American Cancer Society for women with a personal concern about breast cancer. The program assists a breast cancer patient in meeting the emotional, physical, and cosmetic needs related to her disease and treatment. It is one woman reaching out to share experiences and give support to another in a time of need. Reach to Recovery also provides information and support for the loved ones of breast cancer patients.
All Reach to Recovery visitors are volunteers of the American Cancer Society. There is never any charge for the services they provide.
To make a referral or for more information about Reach to Recovery, please call 1-800-227-2345. Referrals are accepted from local surgeons' offices, physicians at the time of hospitalization, or from patients themselves at any point in the breast cancer experience. The Reach to Recovery Coordinator for the Calais/Machias area is Mona Van Wart. She can be reached at 207-454-3906.
